Walker Percy was a physician, scientist, contemporary novelist, and philosopher. He lived from
1916 to 1990, and he's written
six books of fiction, and three books of non-fiction. The Moviegoer won the "National Book
Award," Love in the Ruins won a national Catholic book award, and
he has won numerous other awards.
His characters
are generally reflective of
his background: Southern, Louisianan, and Catholic, and the themes of his novel are the
existential alienation of modern man in a materialistic and scientifc society.
